Healthy Churn Benchmarks by SaaS Stage (2026 Update)

Churn benchmarks change dramatically depending on your stage. Here are realistic numbers founders are actually hitting in 2026.

No aspirational fluff — these are real-world medians from bootstrapped and venture-backed SaaS. All benchmarks refer to logo churn (percentage of customers lost), not revenue churn (percentage of revenue lost). Revenue churn can be higher or lower depending on which customers leave.

Why Churn Benchmarks Are Stage-Dependent

Early-stage SaaS (pre-$50k MRR) can tolerate higher churn because every new customer is a miracle. At $1M+ ARR, even 2% monthly churn starts killing your growth story.

The benchmark moves as your business matures — and so should your expectations.

Churn Benchmarks by Stage (2026)

Stage 1: Pre-$10k MRR (Idea → Early Traction)

You're still proving people will pay and stay. High churn is normal — the real question is whether it's trending down.

  • Good churn: 8–15% monthly
  • Acceptable: 15–25%
  • Danger zone: >25%

At this stage, focus on why people leave more than the raw number. Fix the product before worrying about benchmarks.

Stage 2: $10k–$50k MRR (Early Growth)

You're past PMF but not yet at scale. Churn should start compressing.

  • Good churn: 5–8% monthly
  • Acceptable: 8–12%
  • Danger zone: >12%

If you're still >10%, fix onboarding and first-value delivery before spending more on acquisition.

Stage 3: $50k–$250k MRR (Scaling)

This is where churn becomes a real growth killer. Investors start asking hard questions.

  • Good churn: 3–5% monthly
  • Acceptable: 5–7%
  • Danger zone: >7% (anything more than 5% is a red flag)

At this stage, net negative churn (expansion > churn) is the goal. Anything more than 5% monthly churn is a red flag.

Stage 4: $250k+ MRR / $1M+ ARR (Mature Growth)

Churn should be very low — you're now optimizing for lifetime value, not just acquisition.

  • Good churn: 1–3% monthly
  • Acceptable: 3–4%
  • Danger zone: >4%

Top performers here hit <2%. If you're still >3%, you're leaving serious money on the table.
